A big thank you to Ms. Kurz and Miss Milton for allowing me to take some pictures of their classroom.  Below you will find some examples of Element 1. What do I typically do to provide clear learning goals and scales (rubrics)?  during a poetry workshop.  These two used a student self assessment scale before and after instruction.

Below students are self assessing before instruction.  Students placed their stickies on the whiteboard under their ranking.  






At the end of the workshop, students ranked themselves again using the same self assessment scale. Here are some additional examples of ways teachers may formatively assess students.
