Digging Deeper Into Mike Riley and the Instructional Strategies

Okay, so I like to connect my blog with something bigger going on in the world and then give it a catchy title to grab your attention.  Hate it or love it.   But if you are a Husker fan, there’s nothing bigger going on right now then the firing of Bo Pelini and hiring of Oregon State’s Mike Riley. Who is Mike Riley?  Is he the right man for the job?   Can he help our beloved football program grow?  Well fans, lucky for you, Tom Shatel managed to dig up some interesting facts in his article Don't be too quick to judge the hiring of Mike Riley and uncovers that Former Nebraska A.D. Bill Byrne praises the hiring of Mike Riley .  Additionally, Erin Sorensen of Bleacher Report, manages to do a little digging of her own on why Replacing Bo Pelini with Mike Riley Is Hard for Nebraska Fans to Understand.

So as the title of this blog suggests, Shatel and Sorensen did some digging into Mike Riley, which inspired me to do some digging into the instructional strategies within Elements 1 and 2 of Marzano’s Teaching Framework.   Don’t be too quick to judge these instructional strategies or Robert Marzano for that matter.  They may be hard to understand at first, but after some digging of your own, you just might find yourself praising one or more for helping you to grow professionally.  As for Riley, time will tell if he’s the right man for the job.  Considering that Nebraska has fired three head football coaches in the last 11 years, Riley may not have as much time as he needs.
